  My doctor told me that my blood pressure was so high that if it didn’t come down, I would need to take blood pressure medicine. I really wanted to avoid that, so I started reducing my salt intake, continued exercising at the gym three times a week, and started to meditate. That helped some, but I needed something else. That’s when I discovered self-hypnosis. Martha, a life coach, counselor, and psychotherapist in Chapel Hill, NC, talked with me about my goals and led me through a guided visualization. We repeated the guided visualization several times, and then she showed me how I could do it on my own, which I try to do at least once a day. I always feel more relaxed after 10 to 15 minutes of my self-guided visualization. I was much relieved when I returned to my doctor, who said my blood pressure was now low enough that I didn’t need to take medication yet, and we would continue to monitor my blood pressure. Since that office visit, my blood pressure has gotten even lower!
